About Our Legacy
The business was founded in August of 1969 by Bill and Maggie Matyastik to provide tax preparation and filing services. Their beginning was in an office space that they rented in downtown Waco, TX across the street from where an Internal Revenue Service Office used to reside. Bill, who formerly worked for the Internal Revenue Service, was determined to help people recover their money instead of finding ways to collect peoples’ money.
In 1980 Bill and Maggie were able to acquire their own office building on 2115 Washington Ave, Waco, TX 76701 and the business is still there to this day. It is fondly referred to as “The Office” by family and friends.
In 1998, their son-in-law Jon Spann joined them and learned the trade of the business. On January 1, 2017 Bill and Maggie were ready to entrust Jon with the business. Jon has since expanded the business both in clientele and in services it provides. The business was expanded to provide bookkeeping, payroll, business consulting, and statistical insight services.
In 2024 Jon’s children Stefan Spann and Jackie Harris joined the family business, thus embarking on the 3rd generation of family working in the business.

About Us
Celebrating our family legacy in tax services and financial support.
Towards the end of the summer of 1997, while working for a logistics company as an auditor, I asked Melissa where she would like to live after Jackie was born. She said living closer to her mom (Maggie) would be nice. I started updating my resume so that I could look for career opportunities in Waco, Texas. At the time, Maggie was the person in the Matyastik family who always read and helped improve written documents. While reading my resume, she asked if I had ever considered doing tax preparation for a living. She offered to teach me the business from the ground up; I accepted and started on January 1, 1998. During that time, I have focused on becoming a small business specialist. Being a small business owner and wanting to learn everything I could to help me manage and grow my own business has positioned me to help my clients succeed as well! I take a great deal of pride in not only being a good tax preparer but also a very good business consultant! This has increased my value to my clients and has been a vital part of the growth of our company.
My greatest moments in 2024 have to do with the future of our business. Both Stefan and Jackie told me that they would like to be the future of Matyastik Tax Service, making them 3rd generation in our 55-year-old business. This also brought a great deal of joy and excitement to Maggie (co-founder of MTS) and grandmother to both Jackie and Stefan.
I'm looking forward to a bright future as we continue to grow and develop our business for years to come!
I committed to the Family Business in January 2024. I am currently working on my Bachelor of Business Management at Tarleton State University and will graduate in May of 2025. After I graduates, I will be working full-time at The Office on tax and payroll services.

I committed to the Family Business in September of 2024, when the bookkeeping position became available. I have since enhanced my skills by obtaining the certification of QuickBooks Pro Advisor. I have also become the primary media and marketing manager for the business. I do most of my work remotely in College Station, Texas. However, I do come into The Office several times a month and work in The Office during tax deadline weeks to provide additional onsite assistance during those busy times of the year.
